A look back on the All Day Bag

I first designed my All Day Bag in the winter of 2019. At that time, I was working out of a small studio- storefront in Maine's remote 'Downeast' region. My original Luna Backpack design had already gained some recognition but was a little too nontraditional in shape for many of my clientele. I needed something similar to a tote, but more versatile, elegant and the perfect size.

Branching off of my already established knotted strap concept, the All Day Bag was born on a frigid, Maine winter evening. The first one was a dark aubergine purple that I stitched with deep red threading. Just moments after finishing, an old friend named Ann knocked on my door to say hello. She and her husband, Tom, admired my fresh design. Ann would make monthly trips on the Greyhound to visit her daughter in Boston and she didn't have an adequate bag for the journey. They offered to purchase my prototype on the spot for $60.

At this point in my budding career, there was almost nothing more valuable to me than cash. I needed it badly then, so I took a few measurements and sold. Reassuring myself as I often do: "If I want, I can make it again."

Since that first prototype, I would estimate I've made more than 100 different versions of that original All Day Bag design. Each one containing its own special details, which intuitively express the essence of the person who chooses to carry it.

I have so much gratitude for this Maven original design and love it deeply to this day. Thanks to Ann and Tom, and all who have supported it, my All Day Bag remains the most loved of all my original designs.

I would love to hear about your special All Day Bag if you have one. And if you don't, there are some brand new options available to you in my Core Collection.
